THE LANDS in the South Seas have raised an amazing crop of talented comic
performers for the silent photoplay. Mae Busch, Snub Pollard, Daphne Pollard
are but a few. Joining this select group is a new comic sensation - the
new king of the pie-throwers - Stanley "Stan the Man" Taggart.
Stanley was born in New Plymouth, New Zealand, on July 28, 1885 and grew
up in that country and nearby Australia. Much of Mr. Taggart's early life
was spent following his father's career in the sheep farming industry. It
was here that Mr. Taggert discovered his comic talents,
Inheriting a sizable fortune from these ventures, Stanley decided to
become an early star-producer in New Zealand's budding film industry.
Working with legendary New Zealand film pioneer Colin McKenzie, Taggart
created a sensation with his popular "Stan the Man" character
in a series of one-reel laugh riots such as "Stan in Waitakere,"
"Stan at Dunedin" and "Stan: Stewart Island Beware!"
in the lands down under.
Coming to Hollywood on the heel of these triumphs, "Stan the Man"
has recently signed a contract with Carl Laemmle where Taggart will star
in a series of twelve short comedies under the revamped Universal-Joker
banner.
Mr. Taggart is five feet five inches tall. He has brown hair and dark
brown eyes, and weighs 135 pounds. His hobbies are billiards, poker, and
horses. |
