SCREEN WRITERS' GUILD

From Blue Book of the Screen (1923)

IN the midst of the beautiful Hollywood residences and near many of the large studios, there stands a vine-covered, palatial-looking home. It has a beautiful yard with a wide driveway leading up to the side of the veranda.

The authors of the screen own it and it is the home of the Screen Writers' Guild. The Whole downstairs is given over to club rooms. There is a spacious lounging room with a cheery fireplace, a piano and right off of the main room is a billiard room.

Recently the writers raised funds to build a theater at the back of the clubhouse. The screen writers are requested to submit short plays and of the best of these three are chosen for their own entertainments. If these authors all agree that the plays are worthy, they are financed for the legitimate stage.

In addition to the theater, there is a large dining-room, and in the summer-time there are tables on the veranda. The top floor of the house is given to authors who are visiting Hollywood from the Eastern Guild. The clubhouse faces on Sunset boulevard.
